How to boost your results
This naturally occurring compound breaks down to uric acid which is what causes gout. Limiting dietary sources will speed up recovery. Your top purine rich foods are alcohol, sweetened beverages (energy drinks, fizzy drinks), condiments and sauces containing high fructose corn syrup (e.g. ketchup), organ meats (liver, kidney, heart, sweetbreads), game birds, and shellfish.
Supporting this plan with extra water helps to remove the accumulated compounds from your system. Aim to be drinking around 500ml of water every 2-3 hours over the whole day. Herbs like dandelion and nettle are brilliant for optimising kidney function so experiment with brewing herbal teas which can be consumed hot or cold.
This applies to people with kidney stones that are formed of uric acid and would therefore benefit from additional supplemental Vitamin C to help clear them. However, people with kidney stones comprised of calcium oxalate should avoid supplemental Vitamin C as it can worsen the issue. In both instances dietary Vitamin C isn't problematic.
