S Adenosyl L Methionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring molecule found in every cell that serves as the body's primary methyl donor, participating in over 100 methylation reactions. Each 5ml spoonful provides 50mg of SAMe in a liquid format (purified water base). SAMe is involved in three critical metabolic pathways: methylation (gene expression, neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification), transsulfuration (glutathione production) and aminopropylation (polyamine synthesis for cell growth).

SAMe has been extensively studied for mood support, joint comfort and liver health. In the methylation cycle, SAMe donates its methyl group to produce neurotransmitters including serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline. Deficiencies in methylation are associated with depression, and SAMe supplementation has shown comparable efficacy to some conventional antidepressants in clinical trials. For joints, SAMe supports cartilage proteoglycan production. For the liver, it supports glutathione synthesis and phospholipid methylation essential for bile flow and hepatocyte membrane integrity. The liquid format provides better stability than many tablet forms, as SAMe is inherently unstable and degrades quickly when exposed to moisture.

Take 1 x 5ml spoonful per day mixed into water, with food.

SAMe is best taken in the morning, as its effects on neurotransmitter production can be mildly stimulating. Mixing into a small glass of water ensures even distribution. Taking with food improves tolerability.

For mood support, allow 2 to 4 weeks to assess the effect. SAMe works within the methylation cycle and benefits from adequate B12, folate and B6 status. If using SAMe for mood, ensure these B vitamins are also being supplemented, as they are cofactors in the same pathway. Store refrigerated after opening to preserve stability.
