Glutathione is synthesized in the body from the amino acids L cysteine, L glutamic acid and glycine. In healthy tissues 90% of the pool of glutathione is in the reduced form where it acts as a powerful antioxidant. It also regulates the nitric oxide cycle and plays a role in DNA synthesis and repair contributing to the health of the immune system ,nervous system , gastrointestinal system and lungs.

Reduced glutathione is glutathione which has lost oxygen. In this reduced state it performs as an antioxidant.
