5-HTP, or 5-hydroxytryptophan, is the compound the body makes from tryptophan on the way to serotonin. This capsule provides it from griffonia seed with vitamin B6 as P5P.
Vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function and the nervous system, and it is the cofactor the body uses to convert 5-HTP. The two are supplied together for that reason.
Each capsule provides a moderate dose of 5-HTP with P5P and cellulose, in a vegetable capsule suitable for vegans. It is often chosen by people who want a low starting dose.

5-HTP or L-tryptophan: what is the difference?
L-tryptophan is the amino acid from food; the body converts it first to 5-HTP and then onward, and the first step is the slow one and competes with other uses of tryptophan. 5-HTP skips that step, so a smaller dose goes further, which is why it is taken at 50 mg where tryptophan is taken at hundreds of milligrams. These capsules give 5-HTP from griffonia seed with P5P, the form of vitamin B6 the body uses in the next conversion. Neither should be combined with prescribed medicines that act on the same pathway without a GP's agreement.
Why capsules rather than tablets?
Tablets need binders, fillers and a coating to hold their shape. A capsule is a cellulose shell around the powder, so it carries no binders and breaks down quickly once swallowed.
