Acetyl L-carnitine is carnitine with an acetyl group attached. Carnitine carries fats into the mitochondria to be burned, and the acetyl form is the one that crosses into the brain.

The body makes carnitine from the amino acids lysine and methionine, and meat is the main food source. Acetyl L-carnitine is the form taken by people interested in energy and in brain and nerve support.

Each capsule provides acetyl L-carnitine with nothing else apart from the vegetable shell. It is often chosen by those who eat little meat and want this rather than plain L-carnitine.

Take 2 capsules once per day before eating.

Taking ALCAR on an empty stomach improves absorption. For energy and cognitive support, morning dosing works best as it supports alertness and focus throughout the day.

Acetyl L-carnitine carries an acetyl group, crosses into the brain more readily, and is the form used in research on memory, attention and nerve health. Choose the tartrate if the aim is training; choose acetyl L-carnitine if the aim is brain and nerve support or you eat little meat and want the form that does both.

Why capsules rather than tablets?

Tablets need binders, fillers and a coating to hold their shape. A capsule is a cellulose shell around the powder, so it carries no binders and breaks down quickly once swallowed.
