Antenatal Formula Capsules give you the full range of vitamins and minerals at the levels used in pregnancy, with folate as methylfolate, choline, iron, iodine, vitamin D3 and K2. The vitamin A is beta carotene, with no preformed vitamin A. You take three capsules twice a day with food. One pot holds 180 capsules, which is a 30 day supply.

What is in it

Six capsules provide 498mcg of folate as methylfolate, 25mcg of vitamin D3, 8mg of iron, 75mcg of iodine, 150mg of choline, 300mg of calcium and 174mg of magnesium. With those come vitamins C, E and K2, the full B complex, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium and chromium. The vitamin A is 600mcg as beta carotene. Every nutrient and its amount is on the label. Prenatal vitamins and pregnancy multivitamin are other names for it.

How to take it

Take three capsules twice a day with food, ideally with breakfast and lunch. Splitting it across two meals helps the calcium and iron absorb and keeps the iron easy on the stomach.

Diet and allergens

The capsules are suitable for vegetarians but not for vegans. They are free from gluten, dairy and nuts.

Common questions

Why methylfolate rather than folic acid?
Methylfolate is the form of folate your body uses directly, while folic acid has to be converted first and some people convert it poorly. The formula gives 498mcg a day, above the amount usually advised in pregnancy.

How much should I take a day?
Take six capsules a day as three with breakfast and three with lunch, which is the full amount on the label.

When is the best time to take it?
With breakfast and lunch, so the two halves are spread across the day and each goes with food.

Can I take it with other supplements?
Yes, but check the combined amounts with your practitioner if you also take a separate iron or folate, so you do not go over the amounts advised in pregnancy.

Does it have side effects?
Taking it with food keeps the iron easy on the stomach, which is why the amount is split across two meals.

Why is there no preformed vitamin A?
Preformed vitamin A at supplement doses is avoided in pregnancy, so this formula gives its vitamin A as beta carotene, which your body converts only as it needs it.
