Flax seed oil is one of the richest plant sources of alpha linolenic acid (ALA), an omega 3 fatty acid. ALA contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels and provides the body with a precursor to the longer chain omega 3 fats EPA and DHA.

Each capsule provides 1000mg of flax seed oil. This is a whole oil, meaning it retains the natural balance of fatty acids found in flaxseed, including omega 3 (ALA), omega 6 (linoleic acid) and omega 9 (oleic acid).

Flax seed oil is commonly recommended for people who want to increase their omega 3 intake from a plant source, particularly those who do not eat fish. However, the body's conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is limited, typically below 5 to 10%. For this reason, flax seed oil works best as a complement to overall omega 3 intake rather than a sole source of EPA and DHA.
