What quercetin is. Quercetin is a flavonoid, one of the yellow plant pigments, found in onions, apples, capers and berries. It is poorly soluble in water and not well absorbed on its own, which is why it is usually taken with a meal that contains some fat.

How it differs from other flavonoid products. Plain quercetin is the form most of the research used and the cheapest to buy. Phytosome and other complexed forms claim better absorption at a higher price. Combination products add bromelain or vitamin C. This capsule is plain quercetin at a known dose, which lets you decide what else to add. The Nutri Tailor guide linked below sets out how strong the evidence is; Nutri Tailor makes no claim beyond that.

Who chooses it. People who have been pointed at quercetin by a practitioner or their own reading and want the plain form at a known dose. People who want to run the 500 mg to 1,000 mg a day range the research used, which is two to four capsules. Anyone who wants a single ingredient rather than a blend.

Capsules or powder. Quercetin powder is bitter and hard to mix, so a capsule is the usual format. Nutri Tailor stocks the capsule.

How to take it. As the label directs, with a meal that contains some fat. If you take prescribed tablets, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a diagnosed condition, talk to your GP or pharmacist first. The Nutri Tailor guide What does quercetin do, and how strong is the evidence? covers the evidence.

Frequently asked questions

What does Quercetin do in the body?

Quercetin is a flavonoid that stabilises mast cells, the immune cells that release histamine during allergic reactions. It also has broad anti inflammatory and antioxidant activity and functions as a zinc ionophore, helping shuttle zinc into cells where it supports immune function. It is found naturally in onions, apples, berries and capers.

When is the best time to take Quercetin?

For allergy and immune support, take Quercetin with meals. Standard quercetin has relatively low oral bioavailability (approximately 17 to 25 percent), and the fat content in food significantly improves absorption. For gut focused use, taking it away from food allows quercetin to act directly on the gut lining rather than being absorbed systemically.

How long until I notice improvements?

For seasonal allergies and histamine related symptoms, effects can be noticed within days to a few weeks when taken consistently. For broader anti inflammatory benefits, give the protocol 4 to 6 weeks. Best results are often seen when starting before peak allergen exposure rather than reacting to symptoms.

Can I take Quercetin alongside prescription medication?

If you take any prescription medication, please consult your prescribing healthcare professional before starting Quercetin. Quercetin can interact with certain antibiotics, blood thinners, and cyclosporine. Suitability and allergen detail is in the Informational Booklet supplied with the product.

Who is quercetin best for?

People pointed at quercetin by a practitioner or their own reading who want the plain form at a known 250 mg dose, people who want to run the 500 to 1,000 mg a day range the research used, and anyone who wants a single ingredient rather than a blend. There is no authorised health claim for quercetin, so Nutri Tailor does not promise an outcome from it.
