Quercetin is a flavonoid antioxidant found naturally in onions, apples, berries and capers. It has broad anti-inflammatory, antihistamine and antiviral properties, making it one of the most versatile plant compounds available.

Quercetin is best known for its ability to stabilise mast cells, the immune cells that release histamine during allergic reactions. This makes it a natural option for people with seasonal allergies, hay fever or histamine sensitivity. It also acts as a zinc ionophore, meaning it helps shuttle zinc into cells where it can support immune function.

Each capsule provides 250mg of quercetin. Standard quercetin has relatively low oral bioavailability (approximately 17 to 25%), as it is rapidly metabolised in the gut and liver. Taking it with a meal that contains fat significantly improves absorption. Combining quercetin with vitamin C and bromelain, as is common in allergy protocols, can further enhance its effectiveness.

For allergy support, typical doses range from 500 to 1,000mg daily. For gut healing protocols, higher doses are sometimes used under practitioner guidance.

Take 2 capsules once or twice per day.

For allergy and immune support, take 2 capsules with meals. The fat content in food improves quercetin absorption.

For gut healing purposes, take 2 capsules three times per day away from food. This allows quercetin to act directly on the gut lining rather than being absorbed systemically.

Quercetin can be used seasonally (for hay fever) or on an ongoing basis for broader anti-inflammatory and immune support.

Frequently asked questions

What does Quercetin do in the body?

Quercetin is a flavonoid that stabilises mast cells, the immune cells that release histamine during allergic reactions. It also has broad anti inflammatory and antioxidant activity and functions as a zinc ionophore, helping shuttle zinc into cells where it supports immune function. It is found naturally in onions, apples, berries and capers.

When is the best time to take Quercetin?

For allergy and immune support, take Quercetin with meals. Standard quercetin has relatively low oral bioavailability (approximately 17 to 25 percent), and the fat content in food significantly improves absorption. For gut focused use, taking it away from food allows quercetin to act directly on the gut lining rather than being absorbed systemically.

How long until I notice improvements?

For seasonal allergies and histamine related symptoms, effects can be noticed within days to a few weeks when taken consistently. For broader anti inflammatory benefits, give the protocol 4 to 6 weeks. Best results are often seen when starting before peak allergen exposure rather than reacting to symptoms.

Can I take Quercetin alongside prescription medication?

If you take any prescription medication, please consult your prescribing healthcare professional before starting Quercetin. Quercetin can interact with certain antibiotics, blood thinners, and cyclosporine. Suitability and allergen detail is in the Informational Booklet supplied with the product.

What dose of Quercetin is typically used?

Each capsule provides 250mg of quercetin. For allergy support, typical daily doses range from 500 to 1000mg, often split across the day. Pairing quercetin with vitamin C and bromelain, as in many allergy protocols, can improve effectiveness because vitamin C recycles quercetin and bromelain enhances absorption.

Is Quercetin suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Please consult your healthcare professional before starting Quercetin if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication, or managing a diagnosed health condition. High dose quercetin during pregnancy lacks safety data.
