Most vitamin D3 supplements are derived from lanolin (sheep's wool), making this algae sourced version one of the few genuinely vegan D3 options available. The D3 form (cholecalciferol) is significantly more effective at raising blood vitamin D levels than D2 (ergocalciferol), which is the form typically found in vegan supplements.

Vitamin K2 is included because D3 increases calcium absorption from the gut, and K2 directs that calcium into bones and teeth rather than allowing it to deposit in arteries and soft tissues. Without adequate K2, high dose vitamin D supplementation can paradoxically increase cardiovascular calcification risk. At 200mcg, the K2 dose is generous (267% NRV) and sufficient to support proper calcium routing even at the higher D3 dose.
