What is the difference between P5P and pyridoxine?
P5P is the active coenzyme form of vitamin B6, used directly in over 150 enzymatic reactions. Pyridoxine hydrochloride must first be converted by the liver.
How much B6 is in each capsule?
34mg as pyridoxal 5 phosphate per capsule, one daily, in 60 or 120 capsule pots. For drop-by-drop titration see the P5P Liquid at 848mcg per drop.
Is there an upper limit for B6?
Vitamin B6 is one of the vitamins where more is not better; sustained very high intakes are not recommended. Keep to the suggested dose unless guided otherwise by a health professional.
What is P5P a cofactor for?
Amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis (serotonin, dopamine, GABA and noradrenaline), haemoglobin production, homocysteine clearance and the release of stored energy from muscle and liver.
Who are P5P capsules best for?
People a practitioner or GP has told to take vitamin B6 at a higher dose for a set period, people with a tested low level, and anyone who wants the active form rather than pyridoxine at that dose. If you have not been told to take a higher dose, the Vitamin B6 P5P Liquid at under 1 mg per drop keeps you near the long-term guidance figure.
How long can I take P5P capsules for?
For the period you have been advised. At 34 mg a capsule this product sits above the 10 mg a day the NHS advises as a long-term limit unless a doctor says otherwise, and above the 12 mg a day ceiling EFSA set in 2023, so it is for a short course or a practitioner's instruction rather than open-ended daily use. New tingling or numbness in the hands or feet means stop and speak to your GP.
Why capsules rather than tablets?
Tablets need binders, fillers and a coating to hold their shape. A capsule is a cellulose shell around the powder, so it carries no binders and breaks down quickly once swallowed.
