What is the difference between P5P and pyridoxine?
P5P (pyridoxal 5 phosphate) is the active coenzyme form of vitamin B6, participating directly in over 150 enzymatic reactions. Pyridoxine hydrochloride must first be converted by the liver. This product contains P5P only.
How much B6 is in each drop?
One drop provides 848mcg of vitamin B6 as P5P (61% NRV). The dose can be increased drop by drop; two drops provide 1.7mg. The 100ml bottle provides 1333 servings.
Why is drop-by-drop dosing useful with B6?
Vitamin B6 is one of the vitamins where more is not better; sustained very high intakes are not recommended. Drop dosing lets you match your intake precisely to your needs rather than jumping in large capsule increments.
Is this vitamin B6 in the form of P5P?
Yes. The only vitamin B6 in this liquid is pyridoxal 5-phosphate (P5P), the active form the body uses directly, at 848mcg per drop. There is no pyridoxine hydrochloride in it.
Who is P5P best for?
People who want the active form of vitamin B6 at a small dose they can adjust drop by drop, people on a restrictive diet, on a B6-depleting prescription or with a tested low level (with their GP's agreement), and anyone who prefers a liquid. If you need a higher fixed dose on a practitioner's instruction, the Vitamin B6 P5P Capsules give 34 mg.
How much P5P should I take?
One drop gives 848 mcg, about 61 percent of the reference intake, and two drops give 1.7 mg. The NHS advises not going above 10 mg a day long term unless a doctor advises it, and EFSA set its adult ceiling at 12 mg a day in 2023. Vitamin B6 is one of the vitamins where more is not better; new tingling or numbness means stop and speak to your GP.
Why drops rather than tablets?
Drops let the amount be adjusted one drop at a time, and they suit anyone who cannot swallow tablets. Tablets need binders and a coating to hold their shape; this liquid contains only the active ingredient and its carrier.
