Lifestyle tips

How to boost your results

Bone broths

Particularly chicken broths as they are rich in Type II collagen which is what our joints are made from. Try to look at these as therapeutic foods that are consumed on a daily basis wherever possible.

Be aware of your omega 3:6 ratio

This will dictate whether your body swings towards an anti-inflammatory state (omega 3 dominant) or pro-inflammatory state (omega 6 dominant). Small oily fish (sardines, mackerel, anchovies, herring, trout and salmon) are your most abundant omega 3 sources and would ideally feature 4-5 times a week to have their highest therapeutic effects. On the other side of this equation, be aware of consumption of high omega 6 levels in intensively reared meat (grass fed organic meat is higher in omega 3), sunflower, vegetable and rapeseed oils, as well as processed foods.

Stabilise to support

Pain can often mean we avoid using our joints as we should to naturally avoid discomfort. However, if the muscles that stabilise our joints weaken through lack of use this will cause friction within the joint to increase and worsen the situation. Look at including low impact strengthening through reformer Pilates, resistance band exercises and yoga.
